Pierre Olivier Joseph Coomans, born 28 June 1816 in Brussels and died December 31, 1889 in Boulogne-sur-Seine, was a Belgian painter and engraver.
Biography
Trained by Nicaise de Keyser and Wappers baron at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Antwerp, he then moved to Paris to enlist in the French army and landed in Algiers, where he lived for several years.
In the early 1850s he toured the Mediterranean and then in Italy, near Naples (1857): the excavations of Pompeii become a source of inspiration.
He settled in Paris in 1860 and then evolved into an academic classicism painted.
A few years before his death, he moved to New York accompanied by his two daughters, Diana and Heva, both also artists.
