José Armet Portanell (Barcelona, 1843 - ibídem, 1911) was a Spanish painter and lithographer.
Biography and work
He began his artistic training at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, counting among his teachers Ramón Martí Alsina. Later he moved to Rome to continue his studies, in this city he was in contact with Mariano Fortuny.1
He participated in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts (Spain) in 1864, obtaining honorary mention and in 1866 obtaining the third medal. He also attended the Universal Exhibition in Paris (1878) with a canvas entitled A landscape of Catalonia.
His work is dedicated to landscape, portraiture and genre painting. It can be contemplated among others in the Museum of the Prado of Madrid, the Museum of Badalona, the Museum of the Ampurdán in Figueras, the VINSEUM of Villafranca of the Penedés and the Library Museum Víctor Balaguer.
