Saint Michael the Archa
Ignacio de Ries (Flanders ?, c 1612 -. Sevilla ?, after 1661) was a Spanish Baroque painter. Born around 1612, probably in Flanders, he is documented in Seville from 1636 to 1661 From the start he showes in all his works a remarkable closeness to the technique of Zurbarán. In his later years his work is influenced by Murillo, which gives more dynamism to his painting, though without renouncing his original style.
His most important works are in the Chapel of the Conception, which was founded in 1645 Captain Pedro Fernandez de Miñano and Contreras in the Cathedral of Segovia, especially the Tree of Life, a curious kind of allegory of Vanitas.
