Gustave Jean Jacquet was a painter and a French illustrator born May 25, 1846, died in 1909.
Biography
Gustave Jacquet was known as a painter of female portraits and historical scenes. He was a student of William Bouguereau, and debuted at the 1865 Salon.
Under the name "Backgammon", it illustrates some humorous works, especially for Felix Juven editions.
On November 29, 1909 took place in Paris the "sale of old costumes, weapons and armor, in the succession of Mr. G. Jacquet." Previously the contents of his studio had been dispersed (Galerie Georges Petit: Catalogue of paintings, watercolors, pastels, drawings by Gustave Jacquet, posthumous sale on 26 & 27 November 1909), catalog references which appear 252 works, including seven referring to old master paintings, which began with a preface entitled "Le Beau Cavalier," written by Robert de Montesquiou, a friend of the painter.
From 1865 to 1866 lives Jacquet 3 Desbordes-Valmore Street; 1867 to 1874 is at 22, rue Saint Ferdinand; from 1875 to 1876, he is at 37, avenue Montaigne; from 1877 to 1883 at 71 rue de Prony; and finally, from 1884 to his death at 92, avenue de Wagram.
