Ferdinand Heilbuth (* June 27, 1826 in Hamburg, † November 19, 1889 in Paris) was a French painter of German origin. The son of a merchant from Hamburg was studied initially in Paris in the studio of Charles Gleyre. Later he went to Rome, where he devoted himself to the historical genre picture. He focused on elegant conception and smooth costume painting. He chose his subjects with preference from the high society class
