Emanuel Thomas Peter (born February 28, 1799 in Jägerndorf; † 6 July 1873 in Vienna) was an Austrian painter of miniatures.
Peter was born the son of a clothier in Jägerndorf, Austrian Silesia. In 1817 he began an apprenticeship as a stonemason in his birthplace. From 1818, he studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. He then spent several years working abroad. In 1830 he returned to Vienna and one of the students of Moritz Daffinger. There he was known as a miniaturist.
His works are now in various public collections in Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia. Most works are but privately owned. His originals are dated mainly in the years 1828-1860. He signed his works often only briefly with E. Peter. His focus was subtle Women Portraits in watercolor and gouache. Peter also frequently copied other masterpieces, which he then replicating in miniature formats. These works were then very popular. 1866/67 this usually painted in watercolor prints were exhibited at the Art Association of Vienna.
