Elias Holwein (* 1579 in Wolfenbüttel, † 1659 in Stade, buried on 18 August of the same year ibid [1]) was a German printer, mold cutter for wood and copper engraver and publisher and publisher of the second oldest newspaper in the world, the Aviso relation or newspaper. [2] His - very rare - woodcuts from the first two decades of the 17th century show mostly portraits of members of the Duchy of Wolfenbüttel, of which 28 leaves - almost Holwein's entire work of that time - property of the Brunswick State Museum.
