August Ferdinand Hopfgarten (born March 17, 1807 in Berlin, † July 26, 1896) was a German portrait, genre and fresco painter. August Ferdinand Hopfgarten studied in 1820 at the Berlin Academy of Heinrich Anton Daehling, Johann Gottfried Niedlich and Wilhelm Wach. The Academy Award of 1825 enabled him to a five-year stay in Rome from 1827 to 1832. Upon his return in 1833 he established himself as a portrait and genre painter. He participated in the stereo-chromic paint the chapel of the Berlin City Palace and the hero paintings in Nordkuppelsaal of the New Museum. In 1854 he became a professor and member of the Berlin Academy.
