Angelo Everardi [1] (1647–1680) was a painter active in Brescia in the second half of the 17th century. He was born in the province of Brescia. He was known as il Fiamminghino or Fiammenghino indicating that he may have been of Flemish or Dutch descent.[2] Old Italian sources also refer to the artist as a German.[3] He studied under the Flemish painter Jan de Herdt who was active in Brescia and Francesco Monti (il Brescianino).[2]
He worked mainly as a battle painter. Among his pupils were Pompeo Ghiti and Faustino Bocchi (1659–1742). Bocchi painted both battles and genre scenes of dwarves and occasionally other mythical beasts.[4] Some art historians have suggested that Everardi should be identified with the artist referred to as Maestro della Fertilità dell'Uovo who painted grotesque scenes.[5]
