Weesperpoort in Amsterdam. Adrianus Eversen
The Weesperpoort was an Amsterdam gate that stood roughly on the site of the current Weesperplein. The gate, which was built between 1661 and 1662, was part of the fortifications of Amsterdam and was identical to the Utrecht Gate and Muiderpoort. Thereby an enemy could not distract in any place in Amsterdam he was. The gate was demolished in 1855 and replaced by the Weesper Barrier in 1857. [1] In 1843 was just south of the Weesperpoort (on the Rhijnspoorplein) Station Amsterdam Weesperpoort built.
