John M. Dionisio is president and chief executive officer of AECOM Technology Corporation,[1] a global architectural and engineering services firm with approximately 45,000 employees operating in 125 countries, and generating a revenue of $7.0 billion in 2010. He was appointed to this position in October 2005, and elected to the company’s Board of Directors in December 2005.

Dionisio has more than 30 years of his career invested with AECOM and AECOM-related companies, during which time he managed numerous projects, ranging in scope from rail transit and peoplemover systems to airports, highways, bridges and marine facility infrastructure.


Education and career

John Dionisio received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the City College of New York in 1971, and an M.S. in Civil Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of New York (now Polytechnic University of New York) in 1976.

During his career at AECOM, Dionisio helped advance the company’s transportation and energy infrustructure business in the Americas. He began as manager of New York Operations for AECOM business unit Frederic R. Harris, an engineering and project management consulting firm. He was promoted to executive vice president of US Operations in 1993, and became president in 1996.

Dionisio oversaw the formation of DMJM Harris in 2000 through the merging of AECOM business units Frederic R. Harris, DMJM Infrastructure, and Holmes & Narver Infrastructure. He served as the new company’s CEO, and while heading the company, was involved in the advancement of such notable projects the Second Avenue Subway in New York, Tren Urbano transit rail system in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the State Highway 130 tollway in Texas, Southern California’s Metrolink Commuter Rail System, and the new World Trade Center PATH Terminal in Lower Manhattan.

In 2003, Dionisio served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of the parent corporation, AECOM, prior to becoming its CEO in 2005.

Tenure as CEO of AECOM

John Dionisio has been an aggressive leader of AECOM, orchestrating numerous acquisitions of architectural, engineering and management consulting firms, as it continues to grow a global presence. Most recently, he worked to bring Earth Tech, a consulting and engineering services firm that specializes in wastewater, environmental, transportation and facilities development, on board to AECOM.

Dionisio was also successful in taking AECOM public in May 2007, netting the company $470 million. He is well known throughout the engineering industry.
