Astydamas the Elder, A tragic poet, the son of Morsimus and a sister of the poet Aeschylus, was the pupil of Isocrates, and according to Suidas (s. v. He was the author of an epigram in the Greek Anthology (Anal. iii. 329), which gave rise to the proverb Sauten epaineis hosper Astydamas pote. (Suidas, s. v. Sauten k. t. l.; Diog. Laërt. ii. 43.)
