Cadmus Sowing the Dragon's teeth, by Maxfield Parrish, 1908

In Greek mythology, Sparti (Gr. Σπαρτοί Spartoí, litt. "men sown", from σπείρω speírô, "to sow") are a mythical people.

They sprang up from the earth when Cadmus sowed the teeth of the dragon of Ares. They fought each other until only five of them remained: Æchion ("snake"), Udeus, Chthonius ("from Earth"), Hyperenor and Pelorus. They helped Cadmus to build Thebes. They were supposed to be the ancestors of Theban nobility: in reference to it, Epaminondas bore a dragon on his crest.
