Pagontas is a village in the Municipality of Dirfyes - Messapia of the Regional Unit of Evia. According to the 2011 census, it has 48 inhabitants. It is built at an altitude of 400 m. [1] at the western foot of Mount Pyxaria, in an area with pine forest. It is 40 km from Chalkida and 7 km from Psachna. South of the village is a LARCO mine. [2]

Historical data

According to tradition, the name comes from the name of a rich landlord of the area. [2]

In 1835 Pagontas was annexed to the municipality of Nileon, while in 1837 he joined the municipality of Kyrronileon, which was later renamed the municipality of Kirinthia. In 1873 it was detached from the municipality of Kirinthia and joined the municipality of Kirea. With the abolition of the municipalities in 1912, it was initially annexed to the community of Ahmetaga, but in 1924 it was designated as the seat of the homonymous community. With the Kapodistrias program, it was annexed to the municipality of Messapia and with the Kallikratis program to the municipality of Dirfyes - Messapia. [3]
