Limnitsa (Λιμνίτσα) Aitoloakarnania

Limnitsa or Limnista is a mountain village in Aitoloakarnania which belongs to the Municipality of Nafpaktia. It is located at an altitude of 580 meters [1], on the southeastern sides of Makria Rachi (1,114 m.), In the passage between the mountainous Nafpaktia and Dorida.

According to the Kapodistrias program, Limnitsa was a local district in the Municipality of Apodotia in the Prefecture of Aetolia and Acarnania. With the implementation of the Kallikratis program, he joined the Municipal Unit of Apodotia of the Municipality of Nafpaktia of the Region of Western Greece. According to the 2011 population and housing census of the country's permanent population, it has 144 inhabitants. The village was built in its current location after the Revolution of 1821 by residents of the older village of Paliospita [2]. The French traveler François Pouqueville names it after Limnista, a list of villages in the Kravaron region inhabited by 10 families.

In the village square there is a large plane tree with a fountain. The parish church of the village is the Grand Brigadiers, a three-aisled basilica, built in 1866. [4]
