Kourounochori (Κουρουνοχώρι) Naxos

Kourounochori is a village in the western plain of Naxos at an altitude of 130-170 meters and has 105 inhabitants (2011 census). [1] It is located on the road axis of Naxos - Kynidaros and between the villages of Melanes and Mylos. It is built on a hillside opposite the Mills. The Venetian Tower, the mansion of the Mavrogenides, the marble table with the engraved dedication of King Otto, the lush gardens with running water and the Temple of the Savior dominate. Kourounochori as well as Melanes in World War II together with the other surrounding villages were rural feeders of the mountain villages of Naxos and mainly of Kynidaros, Keramoti and Koronos. The holy church of the village is dedicated to the Transfiguration of the Savior. In 1983, a joint cultural association was established with the village of Myloi, which bears the name "Educational and Landscaping Association of Kourounochori, Mylon Naxos. Today Kourounochori belongs to the Municipal Department of Melanes of the Municipality of Naxos. ]

Administrative changes

In 1920, in the census, the settlement was recognized and annexed to the community of Melanes. [13]
In 1997, with the implementation of the Kapodistrias program (law 2539/97), the settlement was annexed to the municipality of Naxos. [14] Specifically, with the Kapodistrias program, it belonged to the Municipal Department of Melanes, of the Municipality of Naxos, of the prefecture of Cyclades, to the geographical department of the Aegean Islands. [12]
In 2010, with the implementation of the Kallikratis program (law 3852/2010), the settlement was annexed to the newly established municipality of Naxos & Small Cyclades. [15]

Today, after the last change of 2010 (Kallikratis program), it constitutes together with the settlements of Agios Thalelaios (106 k.), Melanes (414 k.) And Mylos (27 k.) The Local Community of Melanes (652 k.). The so-called Melanon belongs to the Municipal Unit of Naxos, the municipality of Naxos and the Small Cyclades, the regional unit of Naxos (the former prefecture of Cyclades), in the region of South Aegean.
