Kato Samiko (Κάτω Σαμικό) Ilia

Kato Samiko is a village and community of the Municipal Unit of Skillounta of the Municipality of Andritsaina-Krestena in Ilia. It is located 2 km from the Ionian Sea, 3 km southeast of Samikos, 6 km southwest of Krestena, 8 km northwest of Zacharo and 20 km southeast of Pyrgos. Its population in 2011 was 428 inhabitants in the village and 494 inhabitants in the community, which includes the small villages of Klidi and Frangokklisia.

The National Road 9 (E55, Patras - Pyrgos - Kyparissia) and the railway from Pyrgos to Kalamata pass through the village. Kato Samiko was damaged by the forest fires of 2007. The ruins of the ancient city of Samikos are located within the borders of the municipal unit. [1] [2]
