Karoutes (Καρούται) Fokida

Karoutes is a mountain village in the prefecture of Fokida. They are built at an altitude of 1,040 meters on the slopes of Giona. The Karoutes belong to the Municipality of Doridos and, according to the 2011 Census, have 21 inhabitants. On August 5, 1944, ELAS forces, based in Lidoriki at the time, clashed with a German battalion that had begun the day before from Amfissa to capture Lidoriki. The battle was victorious for the ELAS guerrillas and the losses of the Germans were great. [1] During the occupation the village will be set on fire in retaliation.

There are rich bauxite deposits in the area. In the roads that have been opened for their extraction, speed races are often held and have often been used as special routes for the Acropolis Rally.
