Kampos (Κάμπος) Fokida

Kampos is a mountainous settlement located in Dorida, Fokidos Prefecture, at an altitude of 630 meters [1] with 267 inhabitants, according to the 2011 census. Unit of Efpalio of the Municipality of Doridos [2]. The village until 1940 was called Kampi.

Geography

Kampos is located NW of Efpalio, from which it is 12 km away and is located between the villages of Filothei and Palaiomylos, near the provincial road Terpsitheas - Spartia. At the crossroads of this road to the village was the "inn of Fasoula", which in the newest phase first operated in 1890, by Christos Fasoulas [3]. Kampos is built amphitheatrically at the foot of Mount Vigla (Kastri 1,090 m) overlooking the Corinthian Gulf and the Mornos plain. The inhabitants of the area are mainly engaged in animal husbandry [4].

Sights

On the plateau of a hill, between Kampos and Paleomylos, the chapel of Agios Nikolaos is built. Remains of an ancient building were found around it, from which material has been used to rebuild the temple itself. According to one view, it was believed that the ancient Potidania of the Performers was there. To the south of the village lies the site "Memories", which owes its name to the existence of many tombs. The 10th Ephorate of Classical Antiquities of Delphi, after excavations, revealed imposing Macedonian Tombs of the 4th and 3rd century BC. whose findings (ceramics, water pipes, etc.) are on display at the Archaeological Museum of Delphi [5] [6]. According to another view, the version that the ancient city of Apollonia was located in this wider area is considered more probable.
