Grammatikou (Γραμματικού ) Aitoloakarnania
Grammatikou is a lowland village in the Regional Unit of Aitoloakarnania with an altitude of 90 meters [1].
Geography - History
Grammatikou is located south of Lake Trichonida, north of Mount Zygos (Arakynthos), at a distance of 20 km SE. from Agrinio, between Gavalou (E.) and Mataragka (W.) from which it is separated by the torrent Kourkoutas (Boglasti). It is built in a green area with plenty of running water and many olive groves. According to local tradition, the name of the village comes from the period of Ottoman rule and the secretary of the Turkish commander of the region, Hasan Aga, who was Greek and had a house in Grammatikou. As a settlement, it is officially mentioned in 1835 in the Government Gazette 19A - 07/12/1835 when it was annexed to the then municipality of Kerasia. In 1912, with the Government Gazette 261A - 31/08/1912, the seat of the newly established community of Grammatikou was appointed [2]. According to the Kallikratis program, it is the local community of Grammatikou, which belongs to the municipal unit of Arakynthos of the municipality of Agrinio and according to the 2011 census, has a population of 802 inhabitants [3]
