Aiges (Αιγές) Achaia

Aiges (official name: (a) Aigai, former name: Vlovoka or Vlovokas) is a settlement of the municipality of Aigialeia in the Prefecture of Achaia. According to the 2011 census, its population is 70 permanent residents.

General elements

Aiges is built east of Patras at an altitude of 400 meters [2]. Until August 8, 1928, the village was named Vlovokas [3]. The settlement is mentioned in 1853 in the second volume of "Ellinika" by Iakovos Rizos Ragavis as part of the municipality of Aigeira in the province of Aigialeia with a population of 481 inhabitants [4]. Until 1997 it was the seat of the community of Aigai in the province of Aigialeia, while in 1997, as part of the changes brought to the local government, the Kapodistrias project came under the auspices of the municipality of Aigeira as the capital of the Aigai administrative district.

Aiges is located about 10 km from Aigeira after Lambino and Paleokastro. The settlement has a Historical Museum.

Agia Triada is the main church of the village, which was built in the late 19th century and renovated in 1930.
The rock of Eurostin

In Aiges the visitor is worth seeing the rock of Eurostine, as well as the Holy Trinity and its chapels. The rock Eurostini is a maximum height of about 600 meters, idiosyncratic, imposing, the jewel of Vlovoka, whose shadow spreads in the village and causes various comments, while depending on the point of view it takes many fantastic forms. The sailors call him "The Sleeping Beauty", because through the Corinthian Sea he imagines himself as a sleeping daughter [6].
