Historical data

During the Turkish occupation it was known as Liogati or Liogati, a name that lasted until 1928 [2]. During the last decades of Ottoman rule, it belonged to the Paramythia kaza of the santzaki of Ioannina. According to a report from 1874 prepared by the then Bishop of Paramythia Anthimos, addressed to the Continental Educational Association of Constantinople, 12 families lived in the Agora [5], while a few years later, according to the staff of the Greek Ministry of the Army, it had 60 inhabitants. [6]. In 1895 the official census conducted by the Ottoman administration mentions the Agora as a free village inhabited by 27 people (20 men and 7 women) divided into six tax charities [4]. In 1910, according to local metropolitan areas, it had a population of 60 and at the same time had a Greek school with a teacher and ten students [7] and three years later, the first Greek census in Epirus after its liberation by the Greek army against during the Balkan Wars it found 83 inhabitants in the settlement [8].

During the Occupation it is estimated that 17 houses in the village were destroyed. At the same time, three of its inhabitants were killed by the German forces and the armed groups of Tsamidos dosilogos [9].

Administratively, after the integration in the Greek state, Agora was subordinated to the community of Skandalos in the province of Souli in the prefecture of Ioannina and in 1937 it was annexed to the then newly established prefecture of Thesprotia. In 1997 it belonged to the Kapodistrian municipality of Acheron [2], while since 2011 it belongs to the enlarged municipality of Souli [1].
