State Universities (AEI)


Technological Educational Institutes (TEI)

Technological Educational Institutes have recently become part of the Higher Education in Greece. They are typically equivalent to Universities but practically, their graduates have still fewer rights in both public and private sectors. As of 2005, they confer 4-year bachelor's degrees, but they run graduate programs only in collaboration with other Universities.

Academies and Schools

The following schools are considered equivalent to Universities (AEI)

  • Hellenic Army Academy
  • Hellenic Naval Academy
  • Hellenic Air Force Academy
  • Military School of Corps Officers
  • Military Nursing School
  • Hellenic Police Academy
  • Hellenic Fire Academy

The following schools are considered equivalent to Technological Educational Institutes (TEI)

  • Academy of Mercantile Marine
  • Hellenic Army School of Non-Commissioned Officers
  • Hellenic Naval Academy of Petty Officers
  • Hellenic Air Force Academy of Staff Non-Commissioned Officers
  • Hellenic Air Force Academy of Technical Non-Commissioned Officers
  • Hellenic Air Force Academy of Air Navigators
  • School of Police Constables
  • School of Chief Firemen
  • Ecclesiastical School of Athens
  • Ecclesiastical School of Thessaloniki
  • Ecclesiastical School of Vellas
  • Ecclesiastical School of Crete
  • School of Tourism Education of Rhodes
  • School of Tourism Education of Agios Nikolaos

Private Colleges

Private Universities are prohibited by the Greek constitution. The ones that exist operate either as Educational Centers - Laboratories of Liberal Studies (Εργαστήρια Ελεύθερων Σπουδών) or with the method of franchising.
