René Cottet (born November 25, 1902 in Paris; † 24 April 1992 in Rousset-les-Vignes) was a French painter and engraver.

Between 1916 and 1920 he was at the at the Ecole Estienne then at the l'Ecole National des Beaux-Arts , .


He was a professor at the Technical Robert-Estienne College in Paris, and the graphic design of several stamps.

From 1933 to 1934 he was a boarder in the master class at the French Foreign School Casa de Velázquez in Madrid scholarship from the city of Paris.

Cottet made 1938-1968 over six hundred stamps, especially for France, Luxembourg, Saarland, Poland, Monaco, Tunisia and Morocco, as well as for the French Southern and Antarctic Lands. The first motive for the French postal administration in 1941 the coat of arms of the city of Marseille. His designs include mainly portraits, landscapes, and cityscapes and animals. His conclusion was 1968 stamp series to Auguste Renoir.

Honourings and prices

    1932: premier second Grand Prix de Rome de gravure.
    1954: Grand Prix des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris. Médaille d'or au Salon des Artistes français. Several exhibitions.
